Sometimes I am told that my reproductions of works of art have no value. That they are "only" reproductions. This comment can come to me as much from artists as from people like you and me. Although I understand this point of view, I do not agree with it at all, for several reasons. A reproduction is a different way of perpetuating art.
The multiplication of beauty
The artist who has created a masterpiece deserves to have the beauty of his work multiplied. Beauty must be propagated. A reproduction is not a devaluation of the original, on the contrary. Whether it is an original by Monet, Picasso, Frieda Kahlo, or closer to me Sébastien Lachapelle, Manon Roy or Patricia Jean-Cabot, only one buyer can boast of having the original work. It is also a pride to own a reproduction, it is just different.
To own a reproduction or a derivative is to affirm one's good taste for beauty, it is to allow one's entourage to discover artists who are possibly unknown to them. It is to contribute to the creative path of contemporary artists since they receive royalties from the sales made by Action Déco.
Significant reproduction
To own a reproduction is to acquire a work that awakens in us a memory dear to our hearts. It has a meaning of its own that we can share. It is to put some atmosphere in its decoration, to add a particular touch to it which resembles us and invites to the relaxation.
Who doesn't own, or hasn't bought, even a poster from a famous painter's work, just because the image is popular? Without denigrating the superb works of these Monets, Picassos and Frieda Kahlo, who are sources of inspiration for our contemporary artists, why not convey the work of these artists who can be our friends, our neighbors? Who, like us, have a family and participate in the community?
Distinctive quality
Perpetuating art in a different way can be done while maintaining a particular standing, a distinctive quality, as we do at Action Déco. The white aluminum and acrylic print media are uncommon on the market, the editions are limited and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
I am very proud when someone asks me about the prints I have at home. When someone is curious or recognizes the artist behind the work. It's a nice open door to talk about the connection I have with my creators, their working techniques. We also discuss the meanings associated with each one, these are beautiful heartfelt conversations where I really connect with those around me.
Assert and share
To own a print is to own beauty, to propagate it, to share it, to make artists shine and to affirm one's identity.
